• Notes

  Colonel William Ball of Millneck, Lancaster county, emigrated from Yorkshire, England, to Virginia, about 1650. In 1661, his name appears in the Virginia records as "William Ball, Merchant." He was of a good family, his arms being described as: "Argent, a lion passant sable, on a chief of the second three mullets of the first. Crest Out of the clouds proper, a demi-lion rampant, sable, powdered with estoiles argent, holding a globe, or." His wife, HANNAH ATHERALL, with one son and a daughter, did not come to Virginia until 1667, in which year he was commissioned a Major and later a Colonel of Lancaster County Militia. He died in 1680, his will being dated October 15, 1680, and it was probated in Lancaster County November 1680. [2]
