| Notes |
- He served in combat with the French army. His heroic services were rewarded by being named the regidor of Longwy, not far from his native ville of Thionville. In his appointment, it was noted that these positions were only given to those "... of the highest birth and most distinguished services." Josef de St. Maxent died on a trip and left his wife, Marie-Françoise Grenier, as stepmother of Antoine de St. Maxent and executrix of his estate. [2]
Name:
- It is interesting to note that Josef de St. Maxent was born and baptized Josef Duprey. However, as an aspiring young man, he felt that a more melodious and prestigious last name would assist him in achieving higher things. Thus, his last name was changed from Duprey to St. Maxent, after the village of Saint Maxent in the ancient province of Poitou. The Duprey line had traced its earliest ancestors to the Prussian province of Brandenburg. [2]
