  He was born in the French island colony of St.-Domingue, which became Haiti during the slave rebellions. His family fled to Jamaica, then to New Orleans, arriving around 1803. Anatole ran for mayor in 1828, losing to Denis Prieur, and was a City Councilman, Justice of the Peace, fought in the Battle of New Orleans, and other accomplishments.
