      This is a photo of my great grandfather Felix Claude François de Luppé, born April 12, 1821 at Robert, Cul-du-Sac, Martinique, F.W.I. He was the son of Michel Louis François de Luppé Pothuau des Naudry, born Nov. 15, 1784, and Andrea Claire Catherine Robertine Pocquet de Puilhery, born at La Trinité, Martinique (around 1786).

      On a return voyage to Martinique, Michel Louis boarded an Amercian schooner "Romp" which sailed from Newburyport, Mass. October 16, 1821. On October 19, 1821 he became ill and died. He was buried at sea as was the custom. When the "Romp" arrived at Trinité testimony of the captain and other witnesses was duly made before the naval authorities, the port master and those in charge of the marine service of that port. Depot des Papiers publies des Departements et Territoires d'Outre-Mer, cree part edit du mois de juin 1776. Paris, France.

      Felix Claude François married Elizabeth Hubert Hery of Tarbe, France. He and his wife emigrated to Louisiana in 1849 with George Cottrell and his wife, Emilie Victoire de Luppé, my great grandfather's sister, George's mother-in-law, a former Miss Augrain, and George's 9 children, among whom were Ton-ton Ben, and Tonton Henry. All of George Cottrell's children had been born in St. Pierre, Martinique. Arriving in New Orleans, they bought land in Kentucky, today Elizabethtown. This is where my mother's father Charles was born, their only child, born in an American wilderness. George Cottrell died and was buried there no register to even record his death. The entire group returned to New Orleans in 1853-54, shortly after his death. One of George's daughters, Adele, married George, a de Jaham, in New Orleans, and this is our link with Didier de Jaham.
