We have traced the family of Jane (Stewart) Gregg, though her father James Stewart, of Fountain Co. IN. though both deed, census records and family letters, back to his father and mother, William Stewart born 1748 likely in Bright, County Down, Ireland died 10 Aug 1810. Mary (McConnell) Stewart born 1872 , had twelve children, one of which was James Stewart. Based of US Census he was born between 1775 and 1800 Bright, Co Down. He died before 22 May 1832, in Fountain Co. IN
It is believed that he was married twice. The first wife unknown, likely died after coming to America. The second marriage to a Mary_____ was between 1810 and 1820.
Wife #1: A daughter by wife one was Jane born c 1805, She married in Fountain Co. IN, 5 Jan 1826 James Gregg. This line is identified.
Wife #2 The two son are by the second wife Mary.______.
Charles Stewart born c 1813 OH. Married 10 Nov 1840 Fountain Co. IN. Julie Ann Voorhees. The 1850 US Census list four children, James C. born 1842, Stephen born 1844, William born 1849 and Charley born 1841. (note: This Charley may be his nephew)
James Camellus Stewart born c1815 died by 1843, married Mary______ one child Charles Stewart, Jr. said to have been about 6 years old in court records of May 1849
James Stewart son of William and Mary, brother was Samuel Stewart of New Orleans LA.
