 | Extract: Letter written to Miss Destrehan of Paris, sister of the deceased L. Destrehan, 19 Mar 1771 This letter was written to Marguerite Marie Destrehan of Paris by her sister in law, Jeanne Catherine de Gauvry, following the death of her brother in law, Jean Baptiste Louis Destrehan. When Jeanne Catherin de Gauvry's husband, Jean Baptiste Honore Destrehan de Beaupré, died in 1765, her brother in law, Jean Baptiste Louis Destrehan took over as guardian of the children (minors) and estate. (The children were being schooled back in France at the time.) Following his death, the Spanish Colonial govt tried to take possession of the estate. This letter details the workings of the Cabildo of the Spanish Government. |

| Notes |
- The books, To Reach Afar by Horace H. Harvey, Katherine Harvey Rogér, and completed by Louise Destrehan Rogér D'Oliveira and Legacy of Old Louisiana by Louise Destrehan Rogér D'Oliveira and Horace H. Harvey and Katherine Harvey Rogér, both have the same identical genealogy of the Destrehan family. Both list Jeanne Catherine de Gauvry, daughter of Captain Jean Baptiste de Gauvry and Jeanne Catherine Pierre but provide her birth as 1674 in France. However, this cannot be correct. Jean Baptiste de Gauvry and Jeanne Catherine Pierre didn't marry until 1727 and their daughter Jeanne Catherine de Gauvry was born in 1729 according to the New Orleans Sacramental Records. Unfortunately this has confused me for quite some time until coming to this conclusion that the year listed is erroneous. Similarly, her husband, Jean Baptiste Honore Destrehan de Beaupre's birth year may also be incorrectly listed as 1672. I believe that these are the birth years of Destrehan's parents, Jean Baptiste Destrehan (1672) and Marguerite du Saunoy of Paris (1674) which makes a lot more sense.

After the Company of the Indies was dissolved and Vaudreil was Governor he appointed Jean Baptiste Honore Destrehan de Beaupre in 1746 to be the Comptroller of the Colony. By then Destrehan had married Jeanne Catherine de Gauvret (Gauvry) daughter of Captain Jean Baptiste de Gauvret (Gauvry), an officer in Bienville's troops and Jeanne Catherine Pierre.
